Rosh Hashana

Apple and honeyRosh Hashana in the mitzvos of the Torah:

We go through the Jewish year and celebrate the various days. One of the mostly celebrated days across the Jewish spectrum is the day of Rosh Hashana. What does the Torah command us to do on this day? Which of the 613 mitzvos in the Torah are associated with Rosh Hashana?

Rosh Hashana is the start of the New Jewish Year on the first of the month of Tishrei. It has two positive commandments and one negative commandment associated with it and is done nowadays. The positive mitzvos are to rest from work and also blow the shofar on Rosh Hashana. The negative mitzva is to not do creative work. It is really Rosh Chodesh Tishrei and is celebrated for two days even in Eretz Yisroel, unlike all other festivals.
